Recipe of the Week: Pan Seared Sesame Ahi Tuna

One of my favorite meals I’ve ever cooked is sesame pan-seared tuna. The texture of the fish combined with a tangy sauce and crunchy sesame seeds…..mmmmm!!!

ahi

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds Ahi tuna (sashimi grade), 1 inch thick, 3 x 3 square pieces
  • ¼ cup black sesame seeds
  • ¼ cup white sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil (peanut)
  • your choice dipping sauce

Directions

  1. In a small bowl mix together the sesame seed, salt and pepper.
  2. Lightly layer the tuna with some oil and roll the tuna steaks in the sesame seed mixture and coat all sides.
  3. Heat oil in a large cast iron skillet. Sear all sides of the tuna steaks, 1-minute each side, leaving the center rare.

Dipping Sauce

You can pair the tuna with different garnishes. Try with:

  • Peanut Satay sauce
  • Low-sodium soy sauce
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Wasabi Mayo:  Combine 2 tablespoons prepared wasabi and ½ cup of mayo. Refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

This really looks amazing and I will definitely try it out tonight.
In fact you should start your own recipe section, I’d follow it.
If I cannot get fresh tuna, will the fresh frozen tuna be OK?
What wine would you recommend for the tuna?

GurmandDude, frozen tuna will not work well with this recipe. The best option would be to try with fresh sashmi grade ahi tuna. Its worth the money and effort. The best wine to pair with this meal would be a good bottle of Pinot Noir. Thank you for the recipe section suggestion, I will definitely get working on that!! Please let us know how the tuna worked out for you! All the best x

    PinkRay,

I added my own twist to the recipe (well, I’ve never been the follower type) but I have to admit it was absolutely amazing!!!!

If interested I will post my recipe changes, I just need to try it one more time and see if it has the same wow effect…

Thanks for the recipe and please keep them coming

    Hey PinkRay,

Any good turkey recipes? I don’t always have time to get out and bbq, so any quick turkey oven recipes would do wonders

    Thanks
