Jean Pascal will be back in the ring come December, when he’ll be facing off with Donovan George. This fight will mark the first of a four-fight deal between Pascal and InterBox, after Pascal split with Yvon Michel’s GYM. According to InterBox promoter, Jean Bedard, this signing “will place Pascal in a better position with regards to high-profile fight opportunities in the future.”
Lucian Bute vs. Roberto Bolonti will be the main event of this Dec. 6th card. “Two big fights such as Bute versus Bolonti and Pascal versus George on the same card is a very rare occurrence in Quebec,” Bedard said. I have to admit that I have no idea who Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs) is, but looking at his resume he may have more rematches in 38 fights than anyone I can think of.
But being that Bute-Pascal was arguably the biggest fight in Quebec history, and considering that Pascal beat Bute pretty easily that night, some might also wonder why Pascal would even take a fight on Bute’s undercard. Ultimately, Pascal hadn’t fought since his January win over Bute and was unable to secure his own TV date with HBO or Showtime and thus had to take this spot, otherwise be inactive for over a year.
“I am very happy to be fighting George,” Pascal said. “He took (reigning world champion) Adonis Stevenson to the 12th round and I plan to do better so that fight fans can use this as a measuring stick for an eventual fight between Stevenson and I.”
As for Donovan George, “I am coming to win and to shock Quebec,” George said. “I jumped on the fight versus Pascal the very minute it was proposed to me.”
