Essential Oils and Their Wondrous Uses for Your Beauty Regime

Essential oils have been creating serious buzz in the beauty community. But do you know how to make the oils—which aren’t the same as fragrance oils, by the way—work for you? Here are six ways you should start using 100 percent pure essential oils ASAP.

Eliminate Acne
Clear up your skin by preventing future breakouts before they start. Here’s the recipe for an antibacterial acne-fighting blend that smells divine: Mix one drop of tea tree oil with two drops of lavender oil and an ounce of aloe vera gel.

Create a Sexy Scent
A custom-blended fragrance is an absolute luxury, and this one is as alluring as they come: blend sandalwood or cedarwood with lemon, orange, or mandarin oil for a sultry scent. Just dilute your oil mixture into a lotion before you use it (essential oils can be irritating when applied directly to the skin). Use 10-15 drops of oil per ounce of lotion.

Age-Proof Your Skin
You may be able to help prevent skin damage caused by the sun by applying a blend of antioxidant-rich essential oils. Lavender, rose, and myrrah oils penetrate deeply into the skin and may help fight the free radicals that cause aging. For best results, use moisturizing daily with a lotion blended with those oils.

Ward Off B.O.
Looking for a natural way to stay fresh-smelling? Use coriander oil, which is known for its antibacterial properties.

…And Sweat
If there’s one essential oil you want to keep in your gym bag, it’s peppermint oil. When blended with a gel and applied to the skin, it helps reduce perspiration.

Calm Skin
Chamomile helps to reduce inflammation and edema in the skin, which means it’s great for reducing puffiness around the eyes. Blend the essential oil into your favorite eye cream for best results.
